THE MAGIC OF BLACK SOAP BODY WASH

As someone who started out using the most popular soap brands on the market, to someone who now makes the best soap on the market I am just the one to take you on the journey that led me to the magic of black soap. In this article, I’ll be sharing with you everything I learned as a consumer and now purveyor of Earth Seed’s black soap body wash.
What is black soap and what are its benefits?
Originally black soap was known in Ghana as alata samina. It’s a natural soap made from ingredients like coconut oil, cocoa pods, palm tree extracts, and essential oils. Even though it is trumpeted for numerous healing properties, most people choose our soap over cheaper, multi-national brands simply because it cleans better than any soap on the market and lathers out-of-this-world. It’s a forgone conclusion that our forefathers wouldn’t just create a vanity product, but instead a multi-purpose soap that also addresses the skin and hair issues that have plagued us since the beginning of time.
Ghana Black Soap
Ghana has become world renowned for her black soap, but the fact is this is a Nigerian product that we borrowed and never returned. The Nigerian brand, Dudu Osun, is still the most recognized black soap brand globally, but it doesn’t compare in quality or diversity to the renditions coming out of Ghana. In Ghana and at Earth Seed particularly, we approach the art of making black soap more passionately, improving our version with every creation.
Black soap body wash for face and hair
Because of its former form black soap used be used only on the body, but since we made a body wash of it it it is now applicable to your face and hair. When used as a facial cleanser, the ingredients from black soap remove impurities (make-up) and unclog pores, which helps to significantly reduce acne breakouts. In this form it is also easier to use as a shampoo for which it has all the right properties. It’s able it to get to your roots and scalp, breaking up product build-up and making room for your hair follicles to breath and your hair to grow. It also eliminates dandruff and the itchiness associated. Simply apply it to wet hair and massage it into your scalp. For best results, give it two washes to watch all the dirt going down your drain and to experience a lather that will be insane. Then rinse thoroughly and follow up with our natural conditioner.
Black soap for eczema and acne
As someone who has struggled with eczema, I can attest to the effectiveness of black soap body wash for this condition. Black soap is a mild exfoliator, removing dead skin cells and eczema patches. Additionally, the anti-inflammatory properties of the ingredients soothe irritated skin and itchiness. I suffered from a seasonal attack of eczema that seemed to correspond with a change in weather. I used to break out on my back, a pretty difficult place to self-treat, nonetheless, its literally been years since I ‘ve seen any evidence that I even had eczema.
When it comes to acne, our body wash unclogs pores and removes excess oils, which prevents acne breakouts. It can also helps to reduce acne scars and hyper-pigmentation.
That said, it’s important to note that everyone’s skin is different, and what works for one person may not work for another. If you suffer from eczema or acne, our body wash is definitely a worthwhile investment, but I’m no dermatologist, I only speak from personal experience and that of our customers.
Black soap for hyper-pigmentation and black spots
Hyper-pigmentation and black spots can be frustrating skin concerns to deal with. Fortunately, the ingredients in black soap help to reduce their appearance. The natural exfoliating properties of black soap helps by removing dead skin cells, which reduce the appearance of hyper-pigmentation and black spots. Additionally, the antioxidants in black soap help to even out skin tone.
Black soap body wash vs solid black soap
Originally black soap came in a solid-like, cake form. As such it was a bit inconvenient. By turning it into a body wash we achieved the following: First, it’s much easier to use – simply pour it onto a loofah or washcloth and it lathers right up. Second, it’s more hygienic than solid-like version, which requires you to re-dip in order to use. Finally, our body wash is more versatile – now you can use it on your body, face, and hair, whereas solid black soap is typically just used on the body.
Black soap body wash vs castile soap
Before I got around to using black soap, I used to use Dr. Bronner’s castile soap. It was the only natural, chemical-free soap in the space, at the time. It held me down for many years until I came to Ghana and found out about the magic of black soap. Its cleansing power and lathering properties are like no soap I’d ever tried before. I mean, upon your very first try you will see the difference in the water that goes down your drain and you will get that feeling that you can only feel after our soap thoroughly cleans your in-betweens. With all respect to all the soaps out there, there’s nothing that compares to Ghana’s black soap and more specifically, Earth Seed’s black soap body wash.
Side effects of black soap
Even though the ingredients in black soap are all natural some people have experienced irritation when applied on their face. Most people experience no form of side effect, but if you are considering using black soap for the first time, it is advisable to do a patch test first and monitor your skin’s reaction. If you experience any discomfort or irritation, simply discontinue using and whatever reaction to had to the soap will cease.
